வலையங்குளம் கண்மாய் அருகே ராணி மங்கம்மாள் சாலையின் ஓரமாக ஆலமரத்தடியில் ஒரு விநாயகர் கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இக்கோயிலில் 3 அடி நீளம், 2 அடி அகலம் கொண்ட தனிக் கருங்கல்லில், 10 வரிகள் கொண்ட கல்வெட்டு வெட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் 'சாலிவாகன சகாப்தம் 1710ஆம் ஆண்டு 15, திங்கட்கிழமை பூரண நட்சத்திரமும் கூடிய சுபதினத்தில் வலையங்குளத்தில் இருக்கும் திருமலை மெச்சினார் பெருமை பெற்ற நாடகக் கலை சங்கமறிய விநாயகர் கோவிலுக்குத் திருப்பணி செய்து கும்பாபிஷேகம் செய்து திருமலை மெச்சன் உபயம்' எனக் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

வலையங்குளம் பகுதியில் திருவிழாக் காலத்தில் 98 நாட்கள் தொடர்ச்சியாகப் புராணம் மற்றும் பண்பாட்டை பறைசாற்றும் நாடகம் நடப்பது வழக்கம். வலையங்குளம் நாடகக் குழுவினர் திருப்பரங்குன்றம் கோயில் ராஜ வீதியில் வீர அபிமன்யு சுந்தரி நாடகம் நடத்தினர். திருமலை நாயக்கர் திருப்பரங்குன்றம் கோயிலுக்கு வந்தபோது நாடகத்தைப் பார்த்து மெச்சினார். நாடகக் குழுவினரை அழைத்துப் பாராட்டிச் சிறப்புப் பட்டமாகச் செம்புப் பட்டயம், 64 உப்பில்லாக் கட்டிகள் ஆகியவற்றை வழங்கினார். குதிரையை ஓடவிட்டு அது ஓடி நிற்கும் இடம் வரை நிலத்தில் விளையும் பொருட்களின் ஒரு பங்கு நாடகக் குழுவினருக்குத் தரும்படி கட்டளையிட்டார். அக்குதிரை ஓடிய இடத்தை எல்லையாகக் குறித்த பகுதி இப்போது 'குதிரைக்குத்தி' எனப்படுகிறது.

இக்கல்வெட்டு மூலம் திருமலை மெச்சினார் என்ற வம்சம், வலையங்குளம் விநாயகர் கோயிலில் திருப்பணிகள் செய்ததை அறிய முடிகிறது. இப்போது வரை வலையங்குளம் சுற்றுவட்டாரக் கிராம நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் திருமலை மெச்சினார் வம்சத்திற்கு மரியாதை உண்டு. ஏனெனில் தொன்று தொட்டு ஐந்தாவது தலைமுறையாக வலையங்குளத்தில் திருமலை மெச்சினர் நாடகக் குழுவினர்தான் இந்நாடகத்தை அரங்கேற்றி வருகின்றனர். திருப்பரங்குன்றத்தில் அண்மையில் 428ஆவது முறையாக இந்நாடகம் நடந்திருப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Near Valaiyangulam Kanmai, at the edge of Rani Mangammal Road under a banyan tree, there is a Vinayaka temple. In this temple, an inscription of 10 lines is carved on a separate black stone measuring 3 feet in length and 2 feet in width. It states that on the 15th of the month, Monday, in the 1710th year of the Salivahana Saka era, during an auspicious day with a full moon, the Vinayaka temple at Valaiyangulam, associated with the Thirumalai Mechchan drama art association, was renovated, consecrated, and reinstalled by Thirumalai Mechchan. During festival periods in Valaiyangulam, it is customary for dramas depicting Puranic stories and cultural traditions to be performed continuously for 98 days. The Valaiyangulam drama troupe performed the Veer Abhimanyu Sundari drama on Raj Road, Tirupparankunram. When Thirumalai Nayakkar visited the Tirupparankunram temple, he watched the drama and appreciated the troupe, awarding them a special honor in the form of a copper plate, along with 64 upillak kattis (tax-free land grants). He also instructed that a portion of the crops from the spot where a horse ran during the performance be given to the drama troupe. This location is now referred to as “Kuthiraikkutthi.” From this inscription, it is evident that the Thirumalai Mechchan lineage performed renovation works at the Valaiyangulam Vinayaka temple. Even today, the Valaiyangulam surrounding villages honor the Thirumalai Mechchan lineage, as for five generations, the drama troupe has continued to perform these dramas. Notably, this drama has been performed for the 428th time at Tirupparankunram recently.
