பகவதி அம்மன் கோயில் வாசலில் இரண்டு நடுகற்கள் ஒரே பீடத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இரண்டு நடுகற்களிலும் ஓர் ஆண் மற்றும் பெண் உருவங்கள் நின்ற நிலையில் புடைப்புச் சிற்பமாக செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இரண்டு சிற்பத்திலும் ஒரே காட்சி காணப்படுகிறது. சிற்பத்தின் இடப்புறம் உள்ள ஆண் தன் வலக்கையில் வாள் ஏந்தி உள்ளான். இடக்கையை தொடையில் வைத்த படி (ஊருஹஸ்தம்) உள்ளான். இரு ஆண்களுக்கும் குந்தளம் என்னும் கொண்ட அமைப்பு காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவ்விரு நடுகற்களில் காணப்படும் பெண் உருவங்கள் தங்களது இடக்கையை விஸ்மய முத்திரையிலும் வலக்கையை அர்த்தசந்திர முத்திரையிலும் வைத்துள்ளனர். வலக்கையில் உருண்டையான ஏதோ ஒரு பொருளை பிடித்துள்ளனர். இப்பொருள் எலுமிச்சை பழமாக இருக்கலாம் அல்லது குங்குமச்சிமிழாகவும் இருக்கலாம். பொதுவாக சதி சிற்பங்களில் இது போன்ற மங்களப் பொருட்கள் காட்டப்பட்டிருக்கும். இவ்விரு பெண்களுடைய சிற்பத்திலும் தம்மிலம் கொண்டை இடப்புறமாக அழகாக கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. சிற்பங்களில் உள்ள நால்வருக்கும் குண்டலங்கள் காதணியாக காணப்படுகின்றன. இடை முதல் கால் வரை பட்டாடையும் காணப்படுகிறது. பெண்களின் ஆடையில் இடைக்கட்டுகள் வலப்புற பக்கவாட்டில் அழகாக தொங்கியபடி காட்சிப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

இந்நடுகற்களில் உள்ள இருவரும் தெருப்பூசல் அல்லது ஊர் சண்டையில் மரணம் அடைந்தவர்களாக இருக்கலாம். இவ்விருவரின் மரணத்துக்கு பின்பு அவர்களுடைய மனைவியர்கள் சதி என்னும் உடன்கட்டை ஏறி இறந்திருக்கலாம் என்பதை வெளிக்காட்டும் விதமாக இந்நடுகல் எடுக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கலாம். எனவே இதை சதிக்கல் என்றும் அழைக்கலாம். இச்சதிக்கல் சிற்பங்களை பொம்மியம்மன், பொம்மக்கால் மற்றும் பாட்டையாகல் என்ற பெயரில், இவ்வூரில் உள்ள குறிப்பிட்ட சமூகத்தினர் தங்களுடைய குலதெய்வமாக வணங்கி வழிபட்டு வருகின்றனர். இவ்விரு சதிக்கற்களும் வேறு எங்கிருந்தோ எடுத்துவரப்பட்டு, பகவதி அம்மன் கோயில் முன்புறம் வைத்து வழிபடப்பட்டு வருவதாக சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

At the entrance of Bhagavathi Amman Temple, two hero stones are placed on the same pedestal. On both stones, male and female figures are carved in standing posture. Both sculptures depict the same scene. In each sculpture, the male figure on the left side holds a sword in his right hand and rests his left hand on his thigh (Ooruhastam). Both male figures are shown wearing a hair knot called Kundalam. The female figures on these two hero stones place their left hand in the Vismaya Mudra and the right hand in the Ardha Chandra Mudra, holding a round object in the right hand. This object may be a lemon or a kumkuma container. Such auspicious items are commonly shown in sati sculptures. Both female figures have neatly tied hair knots on the left side. All four figures are shown wearing earrings, and they are depicted wearing pattadai from the waist down. The waist bands of the women’s garments are beautifully shown hanging on the right side. The two individuals on these hero stones may have died in street fights or local conflicts. The stones may have been erected to indicate that after their deaths, their wives committed sati. Therefore, these can also be called sati stones. The sculptures are worshipped as deities by a particular community in the village under the names Pommiyamman, Pommakkal, and Pattayagal. It is said that these two sati stones were brought from elsewhere and placed in front of the Bhagavathi Amman Temple for worship.
