வழிபாட்டுச் சடங்குகள் / முறைகள்

ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் கொடியேற்றத்துடன் திருவிழா தொடங்குகிறது. கோயில் தேரில் வெற்றி வேலப்பர் ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்று பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் பாலிப்பார்.

சிற்பங்கள்

நாகர், காலபைரவர், கண்ணப்பர், விநாயகர், சிவன், விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா, நந்தி ஆகிய உருவங்கள் நேர்த்தியாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

கோயில் அமைப்பு

இக்கோயிலில் முதன்மைத் தெய்வமான வெற்றி வேலப்பர் சந்நிதியும் மற்றொரு சிறிய சிவன் சந்நிதியும் காணப்படுகின்றன. கோயிலின் கருவறையில் முருகன் நின்ற கோலத்தில் பக்தர்களுக்குக் காட்சி தருகின்றார்.

வெற்றி வேலப்பர் கோயில் கருவறை முற்றிலும் கல்லால் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. கருவறையின் மேல் ஒற்றை அடுக்கு விமானம் காணப்படுகிறது. தேவகோட்டத்தில் சிற்பங்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன. கோயிலின் முன் மண்டபப் பகுதி இப்போது சீரமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இக்கோயில் சிவன் சந்நிதியின் வெளிப்புறம் விநாயகர், நாகர், நந்தி, துவாரபாலகர், பாவை சிலைகள் காணப்படுகின்றன. இந்தச் சந்நிதியின் நுழைவாயிலுக்கு மேல் கஜலட்சுமியின் புடைப்புச் சிற்பம் காணப்படுகிறது. இச்சந்நிதியின் உள்ளே சிவலிங்கத்தின் இருபுறமும் ஒரு புடைப்புச் சிற்பம் உள்ளது. வலப்பக்கம் கடம்பன் சிற்பம் காணப்படுகிறது. இடப்பக்கமுள்ள சிற்பம் இடும்பன் என்றழைக்கப்படும் தெய்வமாகும். கோயிலின் வெளிப்புறம் அமைந்துள்ள மண்டபத்தில் சிவன், விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா சிலைகள் உள்ளன. கோயிலின் வெளிப்புறம் வடக்குத் திசையில் விநாயகர் அமர்ந்துள்ளார்.

’வெற்றி வேலப்பர்' என்றழைக்கப்படும் முருகன் ஒரு கொடிய அசுரனை வென்ற பிறகு இக்கோயிலின் வெளிப்புறம் அமைந்துள்ள மண்டபத்தில், மும்மூர்த்திகளான சிவன், விஷ்ணு, பிரம்மா ஆகியோரின் சிலைகளை வழிபட்டதாகச் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இதன் காரணமாக இந்தக் கோயிலுக்கு 'வெற்றி வேலப்பர் கோயில்' என்று பெயர் வந்ததாகவும் செவிவழி வரலாறு உள்ளது. மேலும் இக்கோயில் கூன் பாண்டியன் காலத்தில் சீரமைக்கப்பட்டதாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.

Rituals of worship / Methods

Every year, the festival begins with the ceremonial flag hoisting (kodiyetram). The temple chariot carries god Vetri Velappar in a procession around the town to bless the devotees.

Sculptures

Images of Nagar (serpent deity), Kala Bhairavar, Kannappar (revered devotee of shiva), Vinayakar, Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, and Nandi have been intricately sculpted.

Architecture

In the temple's sanctum, Vettri Velappar (god Murugan) is depicted in a standing posture. There is also a smaller shrine for god Shiva in this temple.

Additional Information

The sanctum of the Vetri Velappar Temple is entirely built of stone. Above the sanctum, there is a single-tiered vimana. Sculptures can be seen in the niches (devakoshta). The mukhamandapam of the temple has been recently renovated.

Outside the Shiva shrine, sculptures of Vinayakar (Ganesha), Nagar (serpent deity), Nandi, Dwarapalakas (door guardians), and pavai (woman) are present. Above the entrance of this shrine, there is a carved sculpture of Goddess Gajalakshmi. Inside the shrine, there is a bas-relief sculpture on both sides of the Shiva Lingam. On the right side is a sculpture of Kadamban, and on the left side is a sculpture of Idumban.

In the mandapam located outside the temple, there are sculptures of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. Outside the temple, in the northern direction, god Vinayakar is placed.
